This course will still contain relevant detail to develop the leadership and management skills for those working or volunteering in any sector of industry but particularly helpful for those in the community & voluntary sector. 

Volunteer Cornwall has been successfully delivering Volunteer Management qualifications since 2012 and this ILM course is an exciting new addition to our programme of management courses and workshops.

About this course

This qualification is ideal if you are going to have management responsibilities but currently have no formal training, and are serious about developing your abilities. It’s particularly suited to practising team leaders seeking to move up to the next level of management, and managers who need to lead people through organisational change, budget cuts or other pressures.

Course Delivery

This course is delivered across four days, partly online and partly in a classroom environment.

Delivery dates:      

  • Day 1 - September 2nd (Volunteer Cornwall, Acorn House)
  • Day 2 - September 9th (Classroom or Online)
  • Day 3 - September 30th  (Volunteer Cornwall, Acorn House)
  • Day 4 - October 7th (Volunteer Cornwall, Acorn House)

What does the course cover?

The course will enable learners to understand:

  • What is leadership in the VCSE, public or private context
  • How to establish effective teams
  • How to motivate to improve performance and retention
  • How to feel more confident in briefings and presentations

For volunteer managers it will give an opportunity to consider some specific areas such as:

  • The principles and values of volunteering
  • The organisational requirements for volunteering
  • The need to support and develop volunteers

How is the course assessed?

This award will be assessed through two assignments to cover these units.

  1. 8600-341 Level 3 Leading and Motivating a Team Effectively
  2. 8600-307 Level 3 Giving Briefings and Making Presentations

Learners will need 8 hours self-study time to complete assignments.
