Welcome all Telephone Befrienders
Thank you for offering vital support of a chat and virtual cuppa over the phone (or by video link if appropriate)
Please read the piece of information below about the role and confidentiality and email back to me to confirm that you agree and understood the terms and conditions of this email.
What Happens Next?
We will contact you as and when a request comes through This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or by phone on 01872 266988.
We will text or phone you the name and phone number and ask that you arrange the call times between you – please read the guidance.
As this is a crisis response we may not always match you with someone that you feel able to converse with – please do not worry if you need to withdraw from the befriending.
We have asked if you can leyt us know some of your interests - this won’t guarantee perfect matches but may help with starting up the conversation.
Hints & Tips
Always agree a time limit to the call.
- Prepare a few ideas before your chat.
- Add 141 before your call to keep your number safe.
- Only discuss non personal information.
- Do not offer advice and guidance.
- Do not feel that you need to talk – sometimes you just need to listen. A quiet moment may just mean that the person needs to formulate an answer.
Training Videos
We will offer some additional support but please do take a look at these videos produced for volunteers in North Tyneside who have offered to help during this crisis - and kindly shared with us.
