This course has been specifically designed to develop the leadership and management skills for those working or volunteering in the community & voluntary sector. We use actual case studies and experiences to contextualise your learning.

Volunteer Cornwall has been successfully delivering Volunteer Management qualifications since 2012 and this ILM course is an exciting new addition to our programme of volunteer management courses and workshops.

About this course

This qualification is ideal if you are going to have management responsibilities but currently have no formal training, and are serious about developing your abilities. It’s particularly suited to practising team leaders seeking to move up to the next level of management, and managers who need to lead people through organisational change, budget cuts or other pressures.

Course Delivery

This course is delivered across four days, partly online and partly in a classroom environment.

  • Day 1 - 11th February 2025 (Acorn House)
  • Day 2 - 25h February 2025 (Online)
  • Day 3 - 18th March 2025 (Acorn House)
  • Day 4 - 1st April 2025 (Self Study Day)

What does the course cover?

The course will enable learners to understand:

  • Leadership in the VCSE context
  • How to establish effective teams
  • How to motivate to improve performance and retention

Within the context of:

  • The principles and values of volunteering
  • The organisational requirements for volunteering
  • The need to support and develop volunteers

How is the course assessed?

Learners will complete two written assignments and deliver a business presentation to demonstrate understanding and knowledge gained.

Learners will need 4 to 8 hours self-study time to complete assignments.
