| Support and Events | Community Hubs |
Each year, people all across Cornwall give the most precious gift of all at Christmas; their time. With communities offering such a diverse range of help and support, we want to provide a single page where you can find out what's on over the festive period this year.
Below you will find details of various charities and community groups who are seeking help to make sure no-one goes cold, hungry or alone over the festive season. As well as offering support for others, many of these charities and groups provide opportunities for individuals to give some of their time to make a huge difference to the lives of others over the Christmas period.
Share an Event/Activity
Know of something going on around Cornwall that we've not yet shared on our website, pop us an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call us on 01872 266988 to let us know so we can spread the word!
If you are a charity or community group that would like to share an event or activity in your area, or if you need some more volunteers to help out over the festive period, please send any details to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Get Involved this Christmas
Take a look at the specific opportunities below, but remember there are other ways you can get involved too:
1) Ask your local foodbank if they need help with collections or distribution of food parcels. You can find a list of food banks here:
1) https://www.trusselltrust.org/get-help/find-a-foodbank/
2) Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for information.
2) Ask your local Community Hub if they need help with meal preparation or activity sessions for people coming in to get warm. You can find your local Community Hubs on this map.
3) Sign up as a Winter Volunteer for Volunteer Cornwall and we will connect you to people in your community who need a helping hand over the festive period. From doing a shop, to collecting medication, to making a telephone call for a chat, to some general help - lots of people struggle over Christmas and you could be the friend they need. Email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to let us know if you'd be interested in being a winter volunteer.
4) Be a good neighbour and check in on older or vulnerable residents in your street or village. The closure of many services over Christmas means some people may not have their usual contacts and become lonely and isolated. A friendly face having a 10 min chat over a cuppa can make a world of difference.
5) Know someone who is going to be on their own this Christmas? Plate up a Christmas dinner and drop it round - or maybe invite them over to join you for the big day? A simple act of kindness can be life-changing!

Support and Events
All across Cornwall there are charities and community groups that will be organising special festive events and activities for the local community to access during the Christmas holidays. St Austell, Jakes Jingle Mingle at St Austell Market House
My wife and I decided a long time ago that under the banner of my Cornwall Dining Club we wanted to do something at Christmas for the community of St Austell Town. No one should wake up hungry on Christmas Day, and no one should worry about being alone over the Christmas period. I'm very fortunate here in St Austell Market House to be able to maybe help a little bit, both with space and a little bit of resources.
So, on Christmas Eve at 5pm, we are holding a "Jingle and Mingle" event. Hot soup and warm, buttery bread will be provided to anyone and everyone, as well as squash or cups of tea, completely free of charge. Allergies and food preferences will be catered as long as possible before options run out. I will also be giving away any remaining treats I have left in the cafe before closing for a few days over the festive break (and if I run out early, I'll be making some specially). There'll be some festive music playing and my children have decided they are making some presents for everyone, although who knows what on earth that will be haha...
Whether you are in NEED and the food is essential, or you just want to come and spend an hour or two in the company of others, absolutely everyone is welcome, no questions asked. Families are more than welcome, we'd love to have you, as well as individuals.
Please help us spread the word about this because those people with the most need may not exactly be avid social media users. If you know someone, old or young, who might benefit from this, please help us reach them.
